Shasta Cascade Overview
California's Shasta Cascade has several well-known ski resorts as well as small community supported ski hills. Many resorts also offer groomed cross-country ski trails and most provide rental equipment, food services and ski schools. Whether downhill skiing the slopes of Mt. Shasta or cross-country skiing an active volcano on Mt. Lassen, California resorts are full of thrilling entertainment. Be sure to check the resort websites for ski packages.

Cedar Pass is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Alturas off Highway 299. The northeastern corner of California is probably the least visited region of the state. This is a small-scale resort with 1 T-bar and 1 rope-tow accessing 6 runs.

Coppervale is located off Highway 36 between Westwood and Susanville. This ski hill is run by Lassen Community College. Coppervale is a small-scale resort with 1 lift and 1 rope-tow. NO RENTAL FACILITIES - bring your own equipment.

X-Country Ski / Snowshoe
Mt. Shasta Nordic Center offers 25 kilometers of groomed trails managed by the Mt. Shasta Ski Park. They are located one mile south of the downhill park off Highway 89. Lessons and rentals are available.

Lassen National Park offers several options for Nordic skiing including Colby Meadows, McGowan Lake, Bizz Johnson Recreational Trail and Lake Almanor.

Lassen National Forest offers a 29-mile snow covered road that has two branching backcountry trails to Forest Lake or Manzanita Lake. Trails begin at the Loomis Museum at the southwest entrance of the park, off Highway 89.

Weaverville offers hundreds of miles of trails through the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Snow-covered roads follow creeks and lead to meadows, up ridges and to the tops of mountains.

Snowmobile
Fun Factory offers snowmobile rentals and over 250 miles of groomed trails through the Klamath, Modoc and Shasta-Trinity Forests. Rentals include helmets and instruction and guides are available. They are located at the Deer Mountain Snowmobile Park, north of Weed off Highway 97.
