William Heath Davis House is located at Island and 4th Avenues in the Gaslamp Quarter. The 1850's home is a prefabricated 'salt box' that was manufactured on the east coast and shipped around Cape Horn to be assembled in San Diego. Davis is considered to be the founder of San Diego where he purchased a large amount of property and constructed several of these homes as income properties. For a brief period, Alonzo and Sarah Horton rented the home from Davis. The Horton's are accredited with the vision and know how to grow San Diego into a bustling metropolis. Today, the Davis House is the oldest wooden structure in San Diego and welcomes visitors to step inside for a tour of the house and museum.
