Orange County Amusement Parks Overview

There are several Amusement Parks all along the California coast. Some concentrate on thrill rides, while others are more of a theme park. And of course, everyone has heard of Disneyland®... and it's here too.

Orange County

Disneyland® is located off the 5 freeway in Anaheim. Home of Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and so many more, Disneyland is still the best theme park there is. Classic rides like Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean® and the Matterhorn are still some of the funnest rides. Two for one tickets are sometimes sold for California Adventure® also. Downtown Disney® is located just outside the park and can be accessed without purchasing a ticket. There you can find Disney® souvenirs, shopping and entertainment.

TIPS: Take advantage of FastPass. Grab a ticket from the dispenser in front of each ride and come back at the designated time. You can maximise your ride intake this way.
Also, make a reservation for dinner at the Blue Bayou restaurant in the Pirates of the Caribbean when you first enter the park. It is one of the best places to eat in the park with great atmosphere. Head to the right side of Pirates of the Caribbean to find it.

California Adventure is located next to Disneyland off the 5 freeway in Anaheim. Located on the same lot as Disneyland®, this park offers a "California in a day" experience. Attractions include California Screamin', Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and old-fashioned boardwalk games. The even have a Boudin's Bakery shop offering famous San Francisco sourdough bread.

TIPS: Soarin' Over California is the best attraction in the park. Don't miss getting on this ride.

Knott's Berry Farm is located off the 5 and 91 freeways in Buena Park. The Knott family invented the boysenberry on the farm that was once at this location. Mr. Knott started the park as a replica of Calico Ghost Town. This is my favorite theme park for the lesser crowds and old western theme. Attractions include Bigfoot Rapids, Xcelerator, Ghostrider and Jaguar. Be sure to keep an eye out for unscrupulous characters when riding the Calico Train. Soak City water park is also located directly across the street and Medieval Times dinner theater is within walking distance.

TIPS: Be sure to have a meal at the restaurant in the front of the park. Mrs. Knott was known for her fried chicken and fresh boysenberry pie, which is still served up.
Also, walk behind some of the buildings in the ghost town and you might find some hidden secrets like the cowboy buried so recently that you can still feel his heart beatin' through the grave.
