Los Angeles Amusement Parks

Los Angeles Amusement Parks Overview

Los Angeles County

There are several Amusement Parks throughout California. Some concentrate on thrill rides, while others are more of a theme park. Below we've listed the amusement parks that can be found in the Los Angeles region. These include the heart-stomping Six Flag's Magic Mountain, the uniquely diverse Universal Studios Hollywood and Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier where you can ride a rollercoaster over the ocean.

Pacific Park is located at the end of the 10 freeway on the Santa Monica Pier. The park is a mix of carnival games, rides and ferrous wheel, to modern day rollercoasters and thrill rides. The pier was originally built in 1909. Charles Looff, the builder of Coney Island's first carousel, saw the potential in rides and attractions on the Santa Monica Pier and started building the Looff Pleasure Pier. My grandparents used to go dancing at the La Monica Ballroom on the end of the pier in the 1950's. The pier suffered damage over the years and was eventually scheduled for demolition. Citizens fought to preserve it as a historical landmark and by the 1980's it was restored to its former glory.
